A selection of films from The mirror of the soul exhibition

Many of the leading figures of Hungarian animation are also accomplished visual artists whose paintings, drawings and sculptures have made a significant contribution to Hungarian culture. Organised by the Film and Photography Section of the Hungarian Academy of Arts, the exhibition The mirror of the soul, on view in the sixth-floor exhibition galleries of the Pesti Vigadó from 10 September to 29 October 2026, presents these multifaceted masters—together with a younger generation of animation artists supported by the Hungarian Academy of Arts Scholarship Programme—through their works of fine art, revealing the creative imagination behind their animated films.

Complementing the exhibition, this programme features a curated selection of the participating artists' animated films, followed by professional discussions, offering audiences a unique opportunity to explore the close relationship between Hungarian animation and the visual arts.
